During the visit, I participated mainly in the following projects: Transport Sourced Emissions,Fuel Directory Review, 2-stroke Engines (Small engines), Portable Emission Measurement Systems

• Development of autoignition model for natural gas engines
This project (PhD thesis project) mainly involved engine testing, operating data acquisition systems (including LabView), analyzing the relevant data collected, and FORTRAN programming. This project was sponsored by John Deere and Iowa State University and completed in May 2000.

• Design and fabrication of an experimental device to measure the speed of sound at high pressures and temperatures.
The device provided speed of sound and bulk modulus at pressures to 5000 psi and temperatures to 100 degree C. The project was sponsored by National Renewable Energy Laboratory (May 1998 - December 1998).

• Investigating the emission effects of a fuel additive on a John Deere 4276T turbocharged diesel engine.
This project mainly involved operation with a DC dynamometer and emission instruments to investigate the long-term effects of a lubricity-enhancing fuel additive on a John Deere 4276T turbocharged diesel engine. The project was sponsored by the United Soybean Board of Washington D.C. (December 1997 – April 1998).

• Determination of knock sensor location on a John Deere Heavy-Duty Natural Gas Engine (MS thesis project)
This project mainly involved operation of a DC dynamometer and measurement and analysis of engine block vibration data. The project was sponsored by John Deere and Iowa State University and completed in Spring 1997 at Iowa State University.

• Emission tests of a diesel engine powered Dodge pick-up by using 2% biodiesel as engine fuel
Chassis dynamometer operation and the emission measurement to determine the emission characteristics of a Dodge pick-up by using 2% biodiesel in diesel fuel as the engine fuel. The project sponsored by the Michigan Soybean Promotion Board (September 1997 - February 1998).
